About Homeopathy #01WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?
WHAT HAPPENS AT A HOMEOPATHIC CONSULTATION?
WHO CAN BENEFIT?
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN IT HELP?

WHAT IS HOMEOPATHY?

Homeopathy is a safe, gentle and effective system of healing based on scientific principles that have stood the test of time. It recognises that all symptoms of ill health are an expression of an imbalance within the whole person, and to effect a cure it is the individual who needs to be treated, not just the disease.

Homeopathy, (derived from the Greek words homoion and pathos, meaning ‘similar’ and ‘suffering’) involves treating ‘like with like’; a substance capable of producing particular symptoms of disease in a healthy person, is also able to cure such illness in a sick one.

Homeopathy can enhance your general health, energy and sense of well being; you do not have to wait until illness takes hold – prevention is better than cure!

WHAT HAPPENS AT A HOMEOPATHIC CONSULTATION?

To prescribe a remedy that is tailored to your individual requirements, a homeopath needs to have a thorough understanding of your present complaint(s) and medical history, as well as an appreciation of you as a whole person – what makes you unique both physically and psychologically.

In the consultation the homeopath will ask you about the many factors which can upset the mind/body balance, and influence your health in a negative way. She will gain a picture of you on many levels - mental, emotional, spiritual and physical. She may also enquire about your diet and life style, your family’s health and any relevant environmental conditions. All this information is carefully analysed in order to select a remedy (from the thousands of homeopathic medicines that are now at our disposal) that best matches your overall state. Because the focus is on the individual, it is likely that a different remedy will be prescribed for a number of people who have been diagnosed as having the ‘same’ complaint.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?

Homeopathy can be used by anyone, from the very young to the very old. It is an excellent choice of treatment for all the family.

Women and their partners can be supported homeopathically from pre-conception through to labour and beyond. During pregnancy, homeopathic medicines are safe for both mother and child, making it an ideal alternative to potentially harmful orthodox drug treatment.

Homeopathic remedies work by stimulating a person’s own healing force. This means that almost any health problem can benefit from homeopathy. It is particularly helpful when a clear diagnosis has not been made; although test results may detect nothing abnormal, you might feel that something is ‘wrong’. In this respect, homeopathy is a vital form of preventative medicine; if imbalances are corrected at an early stage, the development of serious conditions can be avoided.
